Welcome to Georgia Youth Bowlers Tour

Our History, Purpose and Accomplishments

The Georgia Youth Bowlers Tour (GYBT) was started in 2006 by three volunteer dads: Chris Wunch, Jeff Halen, and Mike Bonzek. The first event had 5 participants. The most recent event had 54.

Prior to the GYBT less than 5 Georgia youth bowlers had attended the Junior Gold National Championships. Over the past 5 years we have averaged 120 attendees to this prestige event.

The GYBT is an integral part of the Georgia State USBC with all events certified by the USBC headquartered in Texas. All scholarships are awarded through the USBC administered SMART program. The SMART Account # is 10962

The purposes served by the GYBT include:

  • Opportunity for young bowlers to compete on “sport condition:\” oil patterns against the best bowlers in Georgia and surrounding areas.
  • Improve their competitive skills and confidence such that they would be prepared to compete on collegiate teams.
  • To award scholarship funds to youth bowlers that is available to be used in post-secondary education.
  • Provide a venue to become eligible to compete in the annual Junior Gold National Youth Tournament held in July in various cities around the country. Thousands of dollars in scholarship funds are awarded at this weeklong event.
  • Provide an opportunity to those youth bowlers outside of Georgia who may not have those same opportunities where they reside. We have had entries from North and South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Alaska, Loisiana, Mississippi, New Jersey and the countries of Costa Rica and Aruba.

We are extremely proud that many youth who participated with the GYBT have gone on to successful experiences educationally and athletically by bowling at the collegiate level.

Over 100 athletues who have bowled with GYBT have gone on to bowl at the collegiate level at over 50 different institutions.
